1. Which goals in the school curriculum shall the teaching proceed from?
– Special attention with the language and intonation we use to communicate.
– Being careful with the stereotypes and break them.
– Struggling against the different expectations we have for girls and for boys faced the same situation.
– Being aware of the differences among children, but taking into account that there are no biological differences.
– Being conscious that less or more physical contact has physical consequences.
2.Earlier knowledges, experiences and interest do the children in your group have? Can you make this a part of education?
We have worked a lot gender equality with my group for three years, and it can be observed. Of course, they have their home patterns and sometimes, these can be very traditional, but the majority of their parents are open-minded.
We believe we should make this a part of education talking about their own experiences at home and trying to analyse them among all of us (teachers and students). So, we could offer our students the opportunity of modifying things which could be better if they carry out them in a different way.
Summing up, we lead to them towards a reflection and we teach them that there are many differents ways to do things and their home patterns are not the only ones. “Everyone can do everything”.
3.Does each child get the same conditions and possibilities to try and develop their abilities at your pre-school?
Yes, all of them have the same conditions and possibilities to try and develop their abilities at our preschool. Teachers takes into account their students’ interests before deciding and carrying out the different projects. Besides, they have a variety of corners(kitchen, supermarket,…)to play with lots of kind of toys (dolls, tools,…).
4.According to your different roles, how can you develop your work to consciously and actively include a gender equality perspective?
We believe that we can develop our work towards a gender perspective just being aware of all those things which we should take into account with special attention to the language, expressions, intonation and expectations.
5.How can the working group create conditions for the children to develop their ability to communicate, document and mediate experiences, ideas and thoughts in different ways and with various digital tools?
We think that through tales we can create a great atmosphere to communicate each other. We tell them the tale and we can use the digital whiteboard as a support at the same time. After that, we talk about:
– Their favourite parts of the tale.
– Relevant ideas/aspects we consider are important to deal with asking and inviting them to tell similar situations at home.
Also, analysing characters through stereotypes songs or cartoons and showing them videos of important women to work toward the respect and tolerance.
6.In what way can each person of the team contribute to support children’s development and learning?
Through the activities we can observe and take notes. So, we can carry out a reflection to deal with different aspects according to gender equality. Finally, it is necessary to transmit this information to all the teachers.
7.Have you at your pre-school noticed any limiting norms in the teaching? It could concern the teaching or some other part of education?
We believe that there are not a school curriculum taking into account the gender equality as something important to consider.
8.Have you considered what representation looks like at your preschool? Is there anything you could do to broaden representation?
We should take into account all those things we have considered before (language, expressions, intonation…), and lots of things would change.
